Traditions we keep

  • WigiliaThe Christmas Eve supper. Twelve meatless dishes, an empty place for the unexpected guest, and the meal begins when the first star appears.
  • OpłatekA thin Christmas wafer shared before the Wigilia meal, each person breaking a piece and exchanging wishes.
  • PisankiEaster eggs decorated with wax and dye in patterns handed down through families and regions.
  • ŚwięconkaThe Holy Saturday blessing of a basket of bread, eggs, salt, kiełbasa and a sugar lamb.
  • 3 MajaConstitution Day honours the Constitution of 3 May 1791. With Flag Day (2 May) and Polonia Day, it is our spring celebration in white and red.
  • 11 ListopadaNational Independence Day marks Poland regaining its independence in 1918 after 123 years of partitions.
  • AndrzejkiSt. Andrew's Eve fortune-telling: pouring hot wax through a key into cold water and reading the shadow it casts.
